Privacy Policy
Effective October 2026
iknowlingo.com is run by John McIntosh (“iknowlingo,” “we,” “us”), Seattle, Washington, USA. Contact: hello@iknowlingo.com.
We collect as little as we can, we never sell your personal information for money, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time.
What we collect
- When you just read the site: your browser sends technical data, such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed and the site that sent you. Our host (Vercel) uses it to keep the site running and secure. Our fonts load from Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address.
- When you join the email list: your email address and the date you signed up.
- When you create an account (later): your email address, a password or sign-in link, and what you save, such as collections and quiz streaks.
- When you subscribe to Pro (later): payments are handled by Stripe or, in our apps, by Apple or Google. We never see or store your full card number.
- When you contact us: whatever you choose to send.
Cookies and advertising
This coming-soon site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. When the full site launches, we will show ads to keep the encyclopedia free. Third-party vendors, including Google, will use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors at aboutads.info. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will see a consent banner and choose before any advertising cookies are set. Details are in our Cookies & Advertising notice.
How we use it
- To run the site, keep it secure and fix problems.
- To send the emails you asked for. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
- To provide your account and Pro features.
- To understand which pages are useful, in aggregate.
- To show ads and track affiliate referrals, once those start.
Who we share it with
Only service providers that help us run iknowlingo: hosting (Vercel), database and accounts (Supabase), fonts (Google Fonts), email delivery, analytics, advertising partners and payment processors. We share data with authorities only when the law requires it. We do not sell personal information. Advertising cookies may count as “sharing” under some state laws; you can opt out as described below.
How long we keep it
Email addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Account data until you delete your account, then up to 30 days in backups. Server logs for up to 90 days.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from email at any time.
- Ask us to access, correct or delete your data: email hello@iknowlingo.com. We reply within 30 days.
- California residents: you can ask what we collect, ask us to delete it, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising. We honor the Global Privacy Control signal from your browser. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
- EEA, UK and Swiss visitors: you have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict and port your data, and to object to processing. Our legal bases are your consent (ads, email), our contract with you (accounts, Pro) and legitimate interests (security, basic analytics). You may complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
iknowlingo is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; accounts require you to be at least 13 (16 in the EEA and UK). If you believe a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.
Security and transfers
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is limited to people who need it. Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
Changes
We will post any changes here with a new effective date, and email account holders about significant ones.
